Abstract

We can not fight against drugs successfully if we do not know needs, the common talk about drugs in the society and different explanations and ideologies of drug use. But here and now we do not know enough about these things. Different taboos and bans keep us from related conceptions to discuss. We do not know Timothy Leary's thoughts. He was guru and ideologist of psychedelic drugs and started psychedelic movements in Western countries in the 60s'-70s'. He confronted American laws and got into prison, was pushed into periphery and slowly people forgot about him. However in his time he had strong influence and we can still meet his thoughts and arguments supporting psychedelic drug use. For today big rebellions and hopes started to dissolve traditional values and behaviours have faded, new religion from ecstasy experience has not formed. We know that drug use does not start as impact of big ideologies but on weekday events with simple offer. Nevertheless we have to be able to represent drug prevention, drug treatment and harm reduction also on this level and have to initiate dialogues, agreements, arguments also against Leary's approach. That is the reason for publishing this book as proposal of National Institute for Drug Prevention. (Béla Buda dr.)
