Abstract |
József Rácz is private professor, staff of Institute for Psychology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Addictology Department of Faculty of Health on Semmelweis University , director of Kék Pont Drug Consultancy Centre and Drug Ambulance. He deals with researches on youth scene, mostly on drug use since the 80's. He is member of Scientific Committee of EMCDDA since 2006. The book presents the research carried out on process of social exclusion within the National Research Development Project titled »Lights and shadows«. Research wished to contribute to study certain parts of social policy related to social excluded groups and to evolve more suitable approaches and practices in society. Research relates to the project which can be summarized as combining power and self technologies of the so called new or Foucault-ruling. The main idea of this is to make individuals capable to govern themselves. We deal with the unwanted consequence of Foucault-ruling: revaluing individual's role results in devolving all responsibility also to the individual. With categories (agency, relationship capital, underclass etc.) used in the research we try to stop this process and to define where are border lines between individual decision, choice, social exclusion, devolving responsibility and stigmatism. In the times of »borderlands« clear frontiers most likely can not be drawn but we hope that this book can reveal older and newer social exclusion mechanisms but also that individuals can protect themselves. |
