Abstract |
The work includes the main results of national survey among people between the ages of 18-65 (two third of Hungarians) about their drug use and attitudes about drugs, drug users and drug policy. On the book presentation also Béla Buda, dr., research head of National Institute for Drug Prevention and Edina Gábor, deputy under secretary for drug coordination participated. She emphasized that study on general population's drug use is one of the most important researches related to drug problem. The other important aspect of the study is that it is part of the European Union data providing system coordinated by EMCDDA. Research was carried out in 2001 on the representative sample of 2359 adult people. Data can be comparable to other populations and other countries factors since used methodology complies with international drug epidemiology standards. Borbála Paksi is a prominent author on the field of addictology researches, especially in epidemiology researches related to illicit drug use. Her study – carried out with Zsuzsanna Elekes – is an important contribution to our knowledge about national drug situation and can be important guideline for future intervention planning and for drug policy decisions. Author's general farseeing methodology means also base for debates on the number of drug users. |
